Description: Shows Muldoon standing holding binoculars and dressed in army uniform. He is directing his artillery troops to fire rounds at Western Samoa, Clyde and Marsden Point. The gun is called 'legislation'. Refers to the fall of the Western Samoan government, the long running industrial dispute at the Marsden Point oil refinery, and the controversial Clutha Development (Clyde Dam) Empowering Bill introduced by the government to continue construction of the Clyde Dam. Description: Set of photographs of Tahiti: Motu-uta (Quarantine Island) with a sea reef in the distance and some people in canoes in the foreground; a view over Papeete with a church in the foreground; the steamer Croix du Sud and a schooner at the government wharf; a man in traditional clothing standing in a cave with a life size stone carving in the shape of a man next to him; a yacht in a bay silhouetted against the sunset; a Tahitian couple on a hill overlooking a broad bay; and a group of men with spears standing in a circle round some women crouching next to what may be a dead person - a man is standing behind the group with his arms raised. Also from the same set are four photographs of a group of Europeans on board a ship, three showing them a holding bouquetsll in fancy dress. Also included are photographs of four women in white dresses wearing elaborate hats and holding bouquets, and a group of men and women onl a picnic with a white tablecloth laid with tea cups etc. F G Gorton was the honorary consulate to the British consul in Tahiti in 1936 and may have assembled this collection. Description: The cartoon shows Avondale Racecourse (Auckland) after a session of night trots, with all the lights blazing but with only a single jockey on horseback coming round the track. A punter or trainer is walking out a door on the right, reminding the jockey to turn out the lights. Refers to the shaky financial position of the racecourse, at the time and possibly to extravagant management, with a barrage of lights for the sake of one rider. Description: Photographs taken during the Duke of Gloucester's tour 1934-1935 featuring the Duke at a number of social and formal events: with another man horse riding at a race course; with another man starting a trotting race; arriving at Marton race course with, from left, Hon Young, Mr H J McManawy and T R Duncan with a policeman and others behind them next to their car; in racing silks and jodphurs and holding a horse whip with his host Mr T A Duncan, holding binoculars, and another unidentified man; on Black Man and C L Bull on Red Flush during a race at Marton; with two other men on a small motor boat, the Duke holding a fishing a rod and one of the men a fish; leaping across a glacial stream; with two others on a glacier holding poles and ice axes; in uniform talking to veterans wearing their medals; inspecting a parade of naval seamen; talking to Viscount Bledisloe at a garden party; a three quarter length profile of him holding his top hat at the same event; and saluting the crowds from a carriage when leaving the war memorial in Wellington. He and the captain are looking through binoculars as French sailors and others are escaping from the island in dinghies with their fingers covering their ears. Description: Colour transparencies of expedition members, birdlife, sailing, and local scenes taken by James (Jim) Watt in Chile during the Totorore expedition, circa Jul-Oct 1983. Set includes images of Luis Espinosa, Oscar Prochelle, John Atkinson, Gerry Clark, Andreas von Meyer, Jim Watt, Pancho (son of Julia von Mayer), Sergio Ohme, Mike Hurst, Patrick Gary, and Jay Nelson. Activities include birdwatching on Pelluco Beach, observing fishing craft at Angelmo (Puerto Montt), landing at the Guafo Island lighthouse (faro), and leaving Ypun Island. There are scenes above and below deck on the 'Totorore'. Bird images include South American terns and an image of a chimango caracara "Accipater" at Guafo Island "on ashy-headed gosling". Description: Adrian Levy wearing an Edwardian style suit-coat at the Wellington Cup meeting, Trentham. He is holding binoculars and a booklet. Photograph taken 23 January 1971 by an unidentified Evening Post staff photographer. Caption - One of the most dapper men seen at the Cup Meeting at Trentham today was Mr Adrian Levy, who caused many heads to turn for a second look at his Edwardian style suit-coat with matching trousers. The fabric, a charcoal and white knitted-look worsted, is from an Italian design. The trousers feature slightly cuffed, flared legs and the coat is lined with bishop purple satin. The suit was designed by Frieze, of Melbourne. Mr Levy chose a vivid-pink shirt, with a large white silk tie, with matching pink stripes.
