Description: Programme of celebrations including a procession from the Seddon Lamp to the Domain on Saturday morning, a reading of the peace proclamation and speeches, sports at noon, and a banquet to returned soldiers at 8 pm. On the Sunday, a citizens' thanksgiving service was held in the Premier Hall, with Mayor C K Lawrie as chairman and an address by Rev F R Jeffreys. Description: Papers include holograph extracts from Speedy's diary of 1863 giving details of skirmishes in Waiuku area; letters to Speedy in his official capacity; letters to Sarah from her husband and relatives 1863-1890; letters from Sarah to her children 1890-1894; marriage certificate for Sarah and James 1835; miscellaneous letters to members of the Speedy family; mss list of birth dates for family members; envelope addressed to J H Jerram in Auckland (one of Speedy's daughters became a Mrs Jerram); and two photographs, one of the family home at Fairlea, Waiuku, and the other possibly of Major Speedy, ca 1860s James Speedy served as an officer in the British Army in India. He married Sarah Squire in Calcutta in 1835. By the 1850s the family had moved to NZ and settled in the Waiuku area. Major Speedy was Resident Magistrate and Native Agent for the Mauku, Waiuku and Pukekohe districts during the wars of the 1860s. Description: Tylden began writing his reminiscences in 1907 and continued till 1913; he writes of his childhood, education, military training in England and coming to New Zealand in 1862 with the 70th Regiment. He gives full accounts of skirmishes in the Waikato, Wanganui and New Plymouth areas from 1863 to 1866. Following his discharge in 1868 he returned to farm in the Pukekohe area until 1881 and practised law in Auckland from 1882 to 1912. Description: Photographs taken during the royal tour of New Zealand made by the Prince of Wales in 1920. Many of the images are of military inspections and displays by school children. There are also displays of Maori dancing and singing, the sailors of the HMS Renown, on which the prince had travelled , prior to their soccer match in Dunedin, the prince addressing the crowds etc. A number of the images are in two-part panoramas. Also included are four scenic photographs by the New Zealand Tourist Department which may have been taken in 1903. The photographer for the tour photographs was Guy.
