Description: 27 sketches made during Simpson's voyage from Italy to the Gulf of Suez, 10-18 Mar 1868. The first sketches depict the island of Stromboli. Other sketches show various views of Mount Etna, Lipari or Aeolin Islands, coastline of the Straits of Messina, scenes of Suez, coastline of the Gulf of Suez. Tipped into the back of the sketchbook are nine drawings made in India, Jan 1860 and Feb 1861. Some are undated. Also a sketch of Spieckern, Germany, dated 22 Sep 1870.
