Their hands both raised in triumph over a well beaten man representing Beirut, who is lying on the ground. The cartoon refers to the ongoing war between the PLO, Israel and Lebanon. Description: Collection contains material relating to the service of Corporal Godfrey William Aydon (2 NZEF 36239) in World War II in Egypt and Palestine, 1941-1945. Photographs collected and taken by Aydon include loose prints, negatives, and a photograph album. The album was compiled by Aydon's daughter Liz in the 1970s. Papers consist of tickets, programmes, guides, and other ephemera collected by Aydon in Cairo and Palestine, 1942-1943. Also includes one tin box used by Aydon during his service as well as a wooden brooch, which was likely made in Egypt. Title supplied by Library. Title was also changed from "Photographs of Palestine and Egypt, World War II ". Creator of collection was formerly identified by the Library as Geoffrey W Aydon. Following biographical research in May 2016, this has been changed to Godfrey William Aydon (his official name). Donation of 2007 was originally taken into the Photographic Archive. Manuscript and curio items were, according to the in-house practice and system capabilities at the time, separated and described by format. When a further donation of the same provenance was made in 2016, the separated materials were intellectually arranged within a multi-format collection record.
