Description: Six oral history interviews conducted by Linda Hepburn about South Island Rowing Incorporated, a voluntary organisation which operates the Meridian Rowing Centre and rowing course on the shores of Lake Ruataniwha, near Twizel, since its inception. The project records memories of the people involved in the establishment and administration of the Centre and in the history of South Island Rowing. Their interviews also cover their own rowing stories and the history of rowing in the regions of Marlborough, Canterbury, Otago, and Southland. Interviewees are: Fred Strachan, Neil Burrow, Cliff Buchanan, Pat McQuinn, Ivan Sutherland, and Catherine and Trevor Wilson (joint interview). Project received Award in Oral History funding from Manatū Taonga Ministry for Culture and Heritage in 2017. Title supplied by Library. Four South Island Rowing Associations; Marlborough, Canterbury, Otago and Southland formed South Island Rowing Incorporated circa 1983 to provide infrastructure that would ensure the running of the National Championship Regatta.
