Sydney Waters, ca 1890-1970s, was a Christchurch-based journalist, specialising in shipping news, who developed a close association with Scott's last expedition. He later served in World War I, and was a Fleet St journalist for a short time. Description: Collection comprises material relating to Robinson's service in World War Two, particularly the Greece campaign. Includes a two page memoir of Robinson's involvement with a five truck convoy that transported ammunition, food rations and water to the Island of Chalkis in April 1941. Cargo was moved in anticipation that troops would use Chalkis Island as part of their escape route from the advancing German Army. Includes telegram, postacards, menus, patient discharge certificate (1942), medical certificates, newspaper cutting, Greek Ministry of Defence certificate and correspondence relating to war medals commemorating New Zealands who served in Greece, and miscellaneous papers. Also four page document regarding a police statement Robinson made to Waverly Police relating to a submarine he sighted off the Waverly coastline in 1986.
