Anglican church established late 1860s, part of the Wellington Diocese. The church buildings that stood in the 1960s were designed by Frederick de Jersey Clere. Information on back of file print of 1/2-002319 reads: "Built 1866, demolished 1925. The present St Mary's church was built at right angles to this one in 1911. [File print 1/2-089379 - 41. Wellington. Karori. Churches. Anglican. st Mary's. shows the two buildings together.] The old church was retained and used as a sunday school until 1925."
