Description: Album of hand-coloured photographic prints, depicting scenes from England and Wellington, including some with caption information by unidentified compiler, taken in the 1950s by unidentified photographer(s). - Includes photograph captioned "England", showing rural scene with swans and rowboat on a pond in a meadow surrounded by trees against a backdrop of hills. - Photographs of Lyall Bay and surrounding area including one showing the intersection of Queens Drive and Toru Street with bay and hills in background, and other images featuring seagulls on a sandy beach, and children swimming at a beach with rocky outcrops. Also includes image captioned "Polish Hostel - Lyall Bay", showing "Ngaroma", the Polish Girls Hostel building in Queens Drive, with view over the bay. - Features two portraits of visiting foreign naval vessels docked in Wellington: the Italian Cruiser 'Raimondo Montecuccoli', in November 1956, and the United States USS 'Arneb' (AKA56), in 1956. - Also includes views from Newtown, featuring images captioned "Newtown Zoo Lake Wellington - Sept 1956", showing swans and ducks on a pond with zoo buildings in background. Some slides have captions written on paper affixed to the glass, that describe the location and/or the subject. Slides include: - Views of various gardens, flower beds, and trees. Also houses in the context of their gardens as well as surrounding farmland. Featured flowers and trees include magnolias, rhododendrons (with at least six images showing the same garden), clematis, weeping willow, stock, aquatic plants (lilies), acacia tree, and roses. Also includes structures associated with gardens such as ponds, rivers, fountains, statuary, a sundial, pathways, an arbour, and stone walls. - Series of images most likely taken at the Fleming & Co flour mill in Riccarton, Christchurch.
