Description: Photographs on album pages: photograph of Mount Peel Station, its interior and grounds including Mr Acland in his study, his daughters and their friends identified by inititals, including one of L D Acland and B B Acland, the latter knitting a sock, and the Church of the Holy Innocence viewed across a field of hay stacks with the forest planted by Acland behind it; more of the same women boating and picnicking, including a view of a gorge taken by Harriet Acland, a church interior and Bishop Harper playing cricket with a young boy; Ilam homestead covered in clematis with balconies and verandahs and extensive grounds next to the Avon River, and the Watts Russell family group at Pareora August 1894 with their dog and saddled horses in the background; the West Coast Times printing office with the men outside it, C G Tripp and family and a Centerbury view; and two views of Tripp's homestead at Orari. Description: Set of photographs of Tahiti: Motu-uta (Quarantine Island) with a sea reef in the distance and some people in canoes in the foreground; a view over Papeete with a church in the foreground; the steamer Croix du Sud and a schooner at the government wharf; a man in traditional clothing standing in a cave with a life size stone carving in the shape of a man next to him; a yacht in a bay silhouetted against the sunset; a Tahitian couple on a hill overlooking a broad bay; and a group of men with spears standing in a circle round some women crouching next to what may be a dead person - a man is standing behind the group with his arms raised. Also from the same set are four photographs of a group of Europeans on board a ship, three showing them a holding bouquetsll in fancy dress. Also included are photographs of four women in white dresses wearing elaborate hats and holding bouquets, and a group of men and women onl a picnic with a white tablecloth laid with tea cups etc. F G Gorton was the honorary consulate to the British consul in Tahiti in 1936 and may have assembled this collection. Description: Advertising brochure for the New Zealand Shipping Company vessel "Ruahine" which travelled between New Zealand and London, via the Pacific Islands and the Caribbean. One side shows a background picture of the passengers relaxing on the deck, with insets of the various cabins, the library, cafe, lounge, swimming pool, dining saloon, and smoke room bar. The other side shows a picture of the whole ship, with insets of its destinations - Fort Lauderdale, Everglades, Tahiti, Jamaica, and Bermuda.
