Description: Programme of celebrations including a procession from the Seddon Lamp to the Domain on Saturday morning, a reading of the peace proclamation and speeches, sports at noon, and a banquet to returned soldiers at 8 pm. On the Sunday, a citizens' thanksgiving service was held in the Premier Hall, with Mayor C K Lawrie as chairman and an address by Rev F R Jeffreys. Description: A programme containing the order and hymns of a children's service, an evening service, a Saturday morning, Saturday night, Monday and Monday night services. The cover, printed on blocks provided by Messrs Vickery & Inkersell, process engravers of Wellington, show a female classical figure (perhaps Victory or Peace), holding the British and New Zealand flags beneath her outspread arms. At the lower corners at kiwis, and at the top left and right corners are portraits of King George and Queen Mary. The back cover shows photographic portraits of Marshal Foch, Admiral Sir David Beatty, Field-Marshal Sir Douglas Haig, Admiral Sir John Jellicoe, General John Pershing and General Sir E H H Allenby. Description: Programme for the Port Chalmers peace celebrations on Saturday 19 July and Monday 21 July 1919. Floral tributes were to be placed on soldiers' graves and school children were to assemble at Port Chalmers District High School, march down Ajax Road and Wickliffe Terrace and line up on George Street. The Mayoress Mrs J D Stevenson was to hoist the flag on the Municipal Building. A procession was to take place, and the route is listed. All traffic was to cease for 5 minutes at 12 o'clock and bells to ring for 5 minutes. Later would follow a children's lunch, sports and picture shows, highland dance entertainment. The SS "Westmoreland" would release a rocket, and the fire brigade would proceed to the Recreation ground to attend a fireworks display. On the Monday there would be a social dance for the returned soldiers. The last page shows a list of the men of the district, killed during the war. The front cover shows a head and shoulders oval portrait of George V between the New Zealand and British flags. Quantity: 1 colour photo-mechanical print(s). Description: Programme cover shows the New Zealand flag and the Union Jack. At the top is a dove carrying an olive branch. Inside is a short text on peace, a list of the Executive Committee, the order of Sunday's proceedings (a church service), Monday's sports programme (including novelty races, a pillow fight, musical chairs, greasy pig, pony jumping) and evening entertainment (torchlight procession, free concert and dancing in the Drill Hall). Tuesday's programme included more sporting events and races, a baby show, and in the evening, illuminations and dancing. After speeches there was a social luncheon including the roasting of an ox by Maoris. Later there were children's sports, maypole, poi dances, Maori haka, and in the evening a fireworks display, a bonfire, and a dance in the town hall. Description: Photograph shows a scene on the road through Havelock, with the Methodist Church (later the Museum) and a single storey house. Along the road is a line of children dressed for a parade in nurses' and sailors' costumes and other fancy dress. Donated with a programme for the Peace Day celebration 19 July 1919, with donor information that the photograph may show the children's procession on that day. However this may not be a winter scene. Description: Glass plate negative photographs taken circa 1900-1931 by an unidentified photographer(s). The images predominantly depict events in public and private life and locations in Wellington between circa 1910 to circa 1920s. Includes: landscape views of Wellington City and Wellington Harbour; family and domestic house portraits; street scenes in Wellington City and suburbs; building portraits; street parades; shipping in Wellington Harbour; sporting activities and teams; and portraits of livestock and pets. Photographs of note include images relating to the end of World War One and the Peace Celebrations in 1919 which depict: decorated buildings, crowds at the Peace Procession in July 1919, crowds welcoming returned soldiers, parades, and ships in the harbour including the 'Zealandic' and 'Athenic'. Also includes images of a photographic exhibition at Wellington Town Hall, one of which depicts a man standing in front of a display who may be McGregor Wright or his brother George B Wright. Includes four photographic prints developed from three of the glass plate negatives by Sharon Smith. Dates assigned to this collection are based on the events and scenes depicted. The full provenance of this collection is unknown. It is perhaps associated with McGregor Wrights Gallery. The building at 182 Lambton Quay housed the fine art dealer business McGregor Wright Gallery circa 1913-1927. The building also housed entities (possibly associated with McGregor Wright) known as J C Butler's Art Gallery in 1911, and Paterson Art Gallery in 1913 and 1920. Physical Description: Black and white dry plate glass negatives (4¾ × 6½ inches); and black and white photographic prints Provenance: The negatives were found in the loft of 182 Lambton Quay, Wellington, in the 1950s by the Poy family who bought the business of Peter Young & Son fruiterers which operated 1932-1950 at this address (The donor's father, Poy Joe, ran the fruiterers business from 1950 to 1958). Negatives were then stored in Donald Poy's garage.
