Description: Photograph album of Canadian scenes. Most of the images are linked with the agricultural college "Macdonald College", part of McGill University. Images show the university buildings, including classrooms and student accomodation; agricultural scenes including dairying, tapping for maple syrup, culture of plants in greenhouses; and scenes of student life, including theatre and sports (many scenes of ice hockey, and one image of an ice yacht). There is also a section on Newfoundland, with life on land, ships and fishing, and reindeer herding. Album includes two loose images from a later date, of two men who had been among the first students at Macdonald College meeting outside the gates of the college circa 1960. Description: Photograph album relating to Henry Beresford Maunsell's service during World War I, with the NZ Army 9th (Wellington East Coast) Mounted Rifles Regiment in Egypt. Many of the military personnel are identified, a few with later dates added noting when some of the men photographed in the album were killed in action. The first part of the album shows soldiers leaving on board HMNZ troopship 'Orari' 14 October 1914, the trip through Hobart, Colombo, Aden, Port Said until disembarkation in Alexandria December 1914. Many scenes show the shipboard stabling for horses used by Mounted Rifle troops; others show various ships they passed on the way. The latter part shows various military scenes in Egypt, including The New Zealand Corps camp near Cairo; swimming horses crossing the Nile; Red Cross Vauxhall ambulance; groups of soldiers riding camels; horse lines; and a line of horses at drinking troughs. Description: Photographs collected by Percy Cecil Hurst during his service in World War One, 1917-1918, and compiled in an album by his wife Margery Hurst in 1918. Photographer(s) unidentified. Most images relate to the voyage from Wellington to Britain on board the troopship 'Ulimaroa' with the 34th Reinforcements. Photographs featuring the Panama Canal, in particular locks and related machinery. Other views taken from on board the ship identify coastal barracks near New York, Hampton Roads, Balboa, and Pedro Miguel. Also photographed are soldiers seated on deck, an alarm parade, and other military transport ships travelling in convoy, Hurst appears in a number of shipboard photographs including wearing light-coloured clothing with a dark belt (standing between Lieutenant Gow and Lieutenant Peace), in a photograph of the gun crew where he is the only one wearing a lemon squeezer hat, and wearing a life jacket with the text "FRONT. ADULT OR CHILD'S LIFEJACKET". Also identified are Lieutenant Cock, Lieutenant De Maus, Captain Anderson, Chef Officer Jones, Lieutenant Blomfield, Lieutenant Toon, Lieutenant Crawford, Lieutenant Peat, and Captain Ward. Description: Transparency slides of Mr E G Williams' (Edmund Gardner Williams') return voyage from New Zealand to England on the Corinthic. The first 14 images show aspects of the Panama Canal including the Mireflores Locks, Pedro Miguel Docks, the Culebra (or Gaillard) Cut, Gamboa and the Gatun Locks. The last 10 slides show arrival in Curacao, and views of Willemstad. These show the wharves, Dutch facades on houses along the waterfront and in a small square, a market, the inner harbour, and views of huge oil tanks and an oil installation.
