Description: Photographs of: a group of people gathered to watch sports on the Queen's Birthday in Tonga including Seddon; a view of the coast at Cape Foulwind; a letter addressed to "Sire Sedone, Pirima, Neuseland" from Niue; a gathering of Tongans outside a marquee in Nuku'alofa for the Queen's birthday celebrations; Seddon and what are probably other parliamentarians standing on the steps of a building; a large totara; the Seddon family on a visit to the state schoolhouse in Levuka, Fiji; the Seddon family gathered round an ornately framed certificate noting Seddon's achievements; Huka Falls taken by the Burton Brothers; Seddon holding a taiaha seated in a group of seven working men; the recreation ground in New Plymouth looking towards Mount Taranaki; two portraits of Samoan girls; a cart travelling on the Cable Bay Road looking out over the bay taken by Tyree Studio; Lake Taupo from Motutere taken by Burton Brothers; and a group of men, possibly including Seddon, sitting and standing on the steps of a building. Description: Folder comprises a handwritten letter from Lawrence (28 Percy Avenue, Kingsgate, Broadstairs, Kent) to Mansfield (Chaucer Mansions, Barons Court). The two page letter begins "I hope you found my book at your new address" [The book is possibly `Sons and Lovers']. Lawrence invites Mansfield down to Kent for the weekend then asks her to act as the go-between in Frieda Weekley's attempts to see her son Montague Weekley. He continues and offers "to get a little flat for you in Bavaria, for a month". A pencilled postscript has been crosshatched on the reverse of the letter and refers to the gift of half a sovereign to Montague Weekley. Accompanying the letter is a typed description of the letter prepared for sale by Michael Silverman. Julius Hogben was a well known barrister and arts supporter serving on many Auckland societies as Chairman. He married Kathleen Senior-Lawerence in 1914 and they had three children. Lawrence Hogben was a Rhodes Scholar and meteorologist. Margot (Margaret) Roth was a journalist, teacher and lecturer in women's studies; married labour historian Herbert Roth. Description: Shows a scene outside a verandahed post office building, wherein can be seen a crowd of eager people keen to get mail from Britain. In the foreground on the street, people read letters. A man in the centre foreground frowns as he reads his letter. At the far left, two cloaked Maori figures pass by. The building was located on a corner site in Princes Street Related material: the Library has a watercolour version of this view, titled Post Office Auckland, dated 1867, and signed L B Temple (reference number B-079-009). The watercolour is almost certainly copied from the Illustrated London news Quantity: 1 b&w art print(s). Physical Description: Wood engraving, 180 x 245 mm. Description: The two pencil sketches are likely to be profile self-portraits of McFarlane. In the top sketch he sits in the river washing his own clothes. Below is a head and shoulder profile portrait of him in a pith smoking a pipe like me now? Haven't seen my face for months so excuse flattery". At top right is a ticket (probably for a bus) in Bombay, listing 278 stops, including: Sassoon Dock, Grant's Building, Museum East, Ballard Pier, Bori Bunder, Dhobi Talao, Prince's Dock, Girgaum P Ch, Pydhonie, Nall Bazar, Charni Rd Jn, Grant Rad, Foras rd, Tardeo, Mazacon. Two brief notes (1997, 1999) addressed to Jane Perry from Douglas Lilburn in relation to gardening. Lilburn and Perry were neighbours. The 1965 print has a letter pasted on the reverse from Little, Brown and Company to Miss Benedict. This was the most recent photograph of Marsh at the time. Description: Comprises certified copies of the following documentation relating to Robert John Heugh Drummond, spanning the time period 1920 to 1944: -Certified Copy of Entry in the Register-Book of Births in the District of Masterton, 13 November 1920 -Certified Copy of Entry in Provisional War Deaths Register, 16 February 1944 -Certified Copy of Entry of Death in the War Deaths Register, 2nd October 1945. Title supplied by Library. Arrangement: Certificates were originally enclosed in a blue plastic A4 clearfile folder with transparent plastic sleeves. The certificates had been organised and filed, probably by the donor. The text 'Heugh's wallet (Y & L) with the displayed papers in it' had been written on a white sticker label on one of sleeves, that contained Heugh Drummond's wallet and identify papers. Quantity: 1 folder(s). Physical Description: Typewritten and stamped certificates of varying length and width. Transfers: Certificates separated from MS-Papers-12716-3.. Processing information: Certificates were separated and removed from original blue plastic folder for preservation reasons. The original order of the certificates have been retained. Description: Comprises a mix of handwritten and typewritten correspondence , including: - Handwritten letters by Robert Heugh Drummond between Jan 1941 to 15th April 1943. - A copy of a handwritten letter written by Heugh, possibly between the dates March - April 1940, February-March 1941, or March - April 1941. - Handwritten letter written by Heugh with its first half missing, presumably written in February or March 1943. - Three photocopied handwritten letters written by Miti Galank Garroni, two of which were to Heugh's family in 1948, and another to Heugh's sister Ros in 2002. - A typewritten letter to Heugh's parents dated 19th October 1943 from the New Zealand Air Department. - A typewritten abstract dated 27 August 1950 by Brother Salvador, Franciscan Novitate, Maryfields Cambelltown, New South Wales. - Four typewritten copies by F.L.W. Wood, dated 13th August 1938, outlining Heugh's academic history at Victoria University College. - A handwritten letter dated 28 November 1944 by David Uttersen, father of the pilot shot down with Heugh. - A photocopy and transcript of a letter written by Heugh, dated 1st February 1942, to his parents and family. Arrangement: Papers were originally enclosed in a black plastic A4 clearfile folder entitled "Other letters" with transparent plastic sleeves, some with white adhesive labels attached. The letters had been organised and filed, probably by the donor.
