Description: Lois Ngaire McKain born Frankton 1926. Outlines family background - father, John Alexander Clarke, bought land from Ewen McGregor estate after World War I. Relates early recollections of farmland, with Jersey cows and talks about major changes in dairying, mechanisation and hygiene. Describes childhood home built by father and domestic facilities and routine. Talks about clearing of land and refers to Dalmations who did much of drainage work. Other farm related topics covered include: rabbits and opossums; farm machinery; Veterinary services; Federated Farmers and Farm Cadet Scheme. Mrs. J. Adair said that she knew a trapper who had not seen one in 40 years' experience. She heard that a white opossum skin once sold for £25 elsewhere in New Zealand.'
