Description: Transcriptions of letters mostly from Shand to S P Smith dealing with comparisons between Moriori and Maori vocabulary, and other aspects of Chatham Islands and Moriori history. There is an index at the end of the volume. The volume contains a copy of a letter written by J C Andersen in 1956, which explains the context of the letters and this volume. Quantity: 1 volume(s). Physical Description: Typescript (34 cm; ½ blue calf) Provenance: The original letters were given to J C Andersen, by Crompton Smith. According to a copy of a letter laid into this volume, from Andersen to the then Chief Librarian of the Turnbull Clyde Taylor, Andersen had organised for this copy of the transcriptions of the letters to be added to the Turnbull Library collection. Probably when Andersen was himself the Chief Librarian.
