He held many trade secretaryships including Wellington Employers' Association, ca 1921-1933; New Zealand Electrical Traders' Federation in 1938; Associated Booksellers of New Zealand, 1944. He came to New Zealand from Glasgow in 1912 and was the first director of the Boys' Institute in Tasman Street, Wellington. Article and photograph published in NZ Free Lance, 15 Feb 1933
