Description: Scenes in Christchurch, Temuka and Mount Roskill, taken by unidentified photographers The upper photograph (PA1-f-195-76-1) shows a group at the back of a grand stand in Christchurch, circa 1903. The middle photograph (PA1-f-195-76-2) is a group portrait taken in Temuka, circa 1903. Lord and Lady Ranfurly are 3rd and 5th from the left respectively. Dudley Henry Alexander is on the far right. The lower, left photograph (PA1-f-195-76-3) and the lower, right photograph (PA1-f-195-76-4) depict the laying of the foundation stone for the Ranfurly Veteran's home, in Mount Roskill, Auckland, in 1903. Description: Charles Hill-Trevor's personal album of the time he spent as personal secretary to Lord Ranfurly, Governor of New Zealand. It records the New Zealand contingents sent to the South African war and public events, personalities and patriotic entertainments associated with that enterprise. Visits to Government houses in Australia record other governors, officials and official residences. On one occasion in Melbourne a New Zealand versus Australia polo match was played. Hill-Trevor shows an interest in Māori, wildlife conservation (including the bird sanctuary on Resolution Island), and the sports of fishing, polo and horsemanship. There are photographs of members of the Ranfurly family and their principal servants as well as the Governor engaged in official functions such as opening the Kaiapoi council offices and laying the foundation stone of the Veterans Home, Mt Roskill, Auckland in 1903.
