Description: This cartoon shows five scenes related to New Zealanders' interest in selecting sports teams, such as discussions in the pub, over the fence and in the office. The final scene shows two jaded men going into the polling booth to vote in the General Election and one is saying to the other, 'I don't think it makes much difference which political team gets picked - I always get the feeling New Zealand can't win'. Published in the Sports Post in 1972. Extended Title - First there was the rugby team to tour New Zealand - now we have to pick the team to counter the Australians - then there's the team to tour the British Isles - and don't forget we had to pick the Olympic team too - so it won't be surprising if many of us are a bit jaded when it comes to making the year's final selection. Quantity: 1 original cartoon(s). Physical Description: Ink, letratone and crayon, 374 x 320 mm Finding Aids: Photocopies available in Pictorial Reference Service.

Description: This cartoon shows four scenes of a man watching his television and drinking beer. In the first he is calmly watching the general election result of 25th November, in the second the All Blacks are beating Wales at Cardiff Arms Park on December 3rd and in the third Norman Kirk is riding a landslide of rocks but in the last the man is chewing his fingers and looking anxious as he watches an All Black clinging on to a cliff in a 'cliffhanger'. Extended Title - After watching Kirk lead his team to victory on November 25th - and 'Kirky' lead his team to victory on December 3rd - a landslide causes a lot less strain than a cliff-hanger. Description: This cartoon features new Prime Minister Rob Muldoon at his desk. He has several reports on his desk and a 'Review of Appointments'. Leaning against his desk is a new broom. On the wall is a scoreboard on which are marked a 'Black List' and 'Goodies'. On the blacklist are the 'Citizens for Rowling' (including Exel, Jeffries, Neary and Harris) and the 'Clergy for Rowling'. Jeffries and Neary have crosses against them. The 'Goodies' include 'Rugby Men for Rob' (including Meads, Kirkpatrick, Batty and Williams), Bob Jones's 'Capital Club' and '100 for Muldoon' (including McKeefry, Jarden and Britten). Top of the rugby list is Colin Meads. Muldoon is on telephone to Colin Meads. This is a bromide of the cartoon as it appeared in the Evening Post, not the original. This cartoon is out of chronological sequence. It is with those of 1973. Other Titles - Citizens for Rowling Other Titles - Clergy for Rowling Other Titles - Rugby Men for Rob Other Titles - Capital Club Other Titles - 100 for Muldoon Extended Title - Review of Appointments Quantity: 1 original cartoon(s).
