Description: Shows a figure in classical dress seated in the left foreground at the base of a fluted Doric column, reading a scroll. A collection of books both stacked and serried are arranged in the centre. At the right is another Doric column; both it and the one at the left are encircled with ribbon on which the names of architects are inscribed: (left column) Palladio, Vignola, Michelangelo, Vitruvius, Brunelleschi, Serlio; (right column) Wren, Inigo Jones, Vanbrugh, Hawksmoor, Chambers. In the central distance is a high square tower with small Gothic spires around its top. The whole is framed in a fluted border with formally arranged laurel leaves.
