Description: Transcript of diary or diaries kept by Nelson from 6 Jan 1855 to 3 Jun 1866 and three days in 1887 (3,4 Jun, 12 Jul). Generally Nelson briefly noted the weather, his main daily activity and occasionally made entries with more information. The diary is incomplete. Nelson describes his life in England prior to emigration on the `Devonshire' in 1863, describes the voyage, continues with his life in New Zealand, subsequent voyage to England in 1864 and his return in 1866.
