New Zealand theatre actor, and director of theatre, film and television. Born in Lancashire, England and immigrated with family to Christchurch, New Zealand when he was eight. Has focused on Shakespeare roles during his theatre career and been involved with Theatre Corporate (including as Chair) and Mercury Theatre in Auckland. Starred in American television series ‘Hercules: The Legendary Journeys’ during 1990s. Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit and Arts Laureate of New Zealand. Married to New Zealand actress Jennifer Ward-Lealand.
