Description: Rev Bob Scott outlines background before Inner City Ministry was formed. Came to St Peter's about 1966. Refers to Bishop Baines who saw new ministry in future. Mentions Godfrey Wilson, Jack Penman, Wilf Ford at Wesley Methodist and Graeme Ferguson at Kent Terrace Presbyterian - all very open to new forms of ecumenical ministry and involvement of lay people. Talks about beginnings of Inner City Ministry in 1971 and became first director. Mentions newspaper, 'Metropolis' and Godfrey Wilson's skill as a journalist. Paper succeeded by 'Downtown' with Richard Norman and later Margaret Hunn as editor. Recalls objections to proposed changes by Wellington City Council in Aro Valley - protest against landlords who profited from people's need for shelter. Reference to Michael Dunlop who brought energy and brilliance to Capital Plan. Refers to people of influence:- Norman Kirk on Springbok tour, Paul Reeves, John Bluck as worker / priest with Wellington Polytechnic, a project initiated by Basil Potter who was then the principal. Talks about Trish Hall who displayed sensitivity. Looks back on those years with joy.
