Awatere-Huata, Donna Lynn, 1949-

Awatere, Donna, 1949-, Breiteneder, Donna Lynn, 1949-

MP and activist for Maori causes. Born Rotorua, daughter of Elsie and Arapeta Awatere. In the 1960s, she performed as a soprano singer. She was involved in Maori protest movements in the 1970s. In 1996 she joined the ACT party and became a list MP in the same year. In 2003 she was expelled from the ACT party after she was accused of fraud associated with her charitable foundation, the Pipi Foundation. She was removed from Parliament in 2004.
