George Dyer's Otira Hotel, showing a group of people standing on and around the verandah

Date: 1889

From: Alexander, J, b 1863? :Photograph album of English yachts on the Solent, and other photographs

Reference: PA1-f-010-05-2

Description: George Dyer's Otira Hotel, with a group of people standing on and around the verandah. Two dogs and a small boy are present. One man is tipping the contents of a bottle into a glass. The words "Otira Hotel" and "George Dyer" are on the front of the building. Taken by A G Jackson in 1889. This was originally dated 1887, but the hotel was not completed until 1888. An article in the Kumara Times 25 Feb 1889 records a second bicycle trip by J Alexander in 1889 where they stayed overnight at Dyers, and it is likely that this photograph was taken then. Quantity: 1 b&w original photographic print(s).
