Description: Comprises letters from Archer to family and friends, mainly from Wuvulu Island, Manus District and from Jame Plantation in Buka 1923-1928; report on coastwatching activity, Bougainville, 1941-1943, by W J Read; his Solomon Islands war diaries, 1943; files arranged by Mrs Roberts, Archer's biographer, which contain aspects of Archer's post-war career, including papers on the planters' asscociations in New Guinea and Bougainville. Source of title - Supplied Archer came to New Guinea in 1923 and took over the former Jame Plantation at Buka, one of the ex-German plantations sold to returned soldiers. He served as coastwatcher in Bougainville during World War II and later with the Solomon Islands Defence Force. After 1945 he returned to his plantations and became one of the most successful and influential planters in New Guinea. Quantity: 7 microfilm reel(s). Finding Aids: Inventory available.
