New Zealand pianist. Was a child prodigy. Studied at Juilliard, New York, under Olga Samaraoff 1947; acclaimed at his Carnegie Hall debut 1948. Toured with the National Orchestra. Killed in a car accident (J M Thomson Oxford history of New Zealand music, p.190)

One excerpt (Woman's Own, undated) features Grant modelling in an article on `How to behave: a modern guide to good manners'. A full-page article (NZ Woman, 5 March 1951) profiles Grant. A front-page photograph and article (Sunday Times, 24 March 1957) is of Grant in the role of Petrouchka and includes an accompanying note from Grant to his parents. Articles cover the Royal Ballet tour to New Zealand in 1959 and of Grant's return to NZ as guest artist for the New Zealand Ballet to play Petrouchka in 1964. Two articles announce Grant receiving his CBE, and another article (Evening Post, 18 November 1959) of Mrs Chapman (Grant's former dance teacher) becoming a city councillor's wife. Description: Cover shows head and shoulders portrait of the New Zealand pianist Richard Farrell. There is a logo of the NZ Broadcasting Service at top left. Programme included Mozart's "Sonata in A Minor", Chopin's "Four etudes" and "Scherzo No 1 in B Minor", Manuel de Falla's "Fantasia Betica", Liszt's "Funerailles" and "Hungarian rhapsody". Two copies held. Assumed to date from a year after his 1951 concerts which are mentioned. He is stated as being 24 years of age, but he may have been 26 at this time.
