Opie, Brian John (Dr), -2022
English literature lecturer and professor at Victoria University of Wellington. He served as President of the Friends of the Turnbull Library and was a former editor of the Turnbull Library Record.
He established Te Whāinga Aronui The Council for the Humanities in 2005. He served as Executive Officer of the Humanities Society of New Zealand; Secretary to the Council for the Humanities; trustee of the National Library; trustee of the Turnbull Endowment Trust; and as a Guardian Kaitiaki.
Known for his research on British poet William Golder (1810–1876) and his support for New Zealand print culture and humanities research. In later years, together with his wife Anne, he produced olive oil on their Stone River Grove propety in Wairarapa.
