Description: Albums of photographs taken by Captain Gordon McDonald Dalziel, 7th Anti-Tank Regiment, during an unofficial tour of Europe by army truck. Accompanied by "Paddy" Paddison, Jack Larney, Jack Bradstreet, Frank Underhay and "Bos"; Dalziel left Trieste 11 July 1945 and drove north through Austria, west across Germany to Strasbourg, south through France to Marseilles, then back via the French Riviera and northern Italy, returning to Trieste 16 July 1945. Album 1 contains views of Berchtesgaden (including the ruined homes of Adolf Hitler, Herman Goering and Martin Bormann), destroyed autobahn, uncompleted German Messerschmitt Me 262 jet aircraft, Munich, Augsburg, Ulm, Baden, Freudenstadt, Strasbourg, the Bas-Rhine district, Belfort, Lyons, the Rhone Valley, Valence, Avignon, Marseilles, the French Riviera, Cannes and Nice. Album 2 contains views of Monte Carlo, Genoa, Lake Garda, Verona, Mestre, and the battle of the Senio River. Source of title - Title supplied by Library Quantity: 2 album(s) Album(s). Description: Postcards of Britain, Europe, Samoa, Tonga, and New Zealand Quantity: 1 album(s). Provenance: This album belonged to the Jack family. Margaret Laing (ca 1898-1959) who was June Stark's aunt and her Father's sister, married James Wilson Jack (ca 1887-1950s). It was through this marriage that the album came into June's family. James Jack's father was the Harbour Master at Tayport opposite Dundee, Scotland. He and his family came to New Zealand in 1887 for the sake of the health of his children (two daughters died of TB). Jack senior became a merchant in Wellington.
