Description: Drawings and caricatures of sports related figures who flourished during the 1940s and 1950s. Includes All Blacks Charlie Oliver, L. Savage, "Has" Catly, and goal-kicker Morrie Doyle, and in other sports boxer Cyril Hurne, American wrestler Dick Raines, and an unnamed female tennis player. Other portraits are of Alex Pratt (manager of Hutt Speedways Ltd), George Welch (secretary of the Wellington Indoor Bowling Association), Mic Zamba (president of the Wellington Softball Association) and boxing trainer Archie Lechie. A number of plain diagrams illustrate boxing and wrestling technique. The original collage of caricatures of McNamara's Southern Cross Collegues used in their 1949 Christmas card and another of two men playing rugby are included. Description: Collection comprises records of the Wellington Scout Area and of the scout groups and scout districts under its jurisdiction. It includes minutes, correspondence, training records, membership files, census returns, renewal and cancellation of warrants, financial records, annual reports, log book and scrapbooks. Source of title - Supplied by Library Arrangement: The boxes were arranged in numerical order by Area, District and Group by Scouts New Zealand before the records were deposited with the Library. The original box numbers have been incorporated in the title of each record. The division of the records into three series has also been retained. The Wellington Area was established in 1962 from the former Wellington Province which was set up in 1955. The Area administered a number of districts (groups combined into geographical units)which in turn were subdivided into individual scout groups (local community units). The Wellington Area was abolished in 2007 prior to the reorganisation of Scouting New Zealand in 2008. The national association, officially named Scout Association of New Zealand, was known as Scouts New Zealand from 2008. Recalls running a youth club at the outbreak of war, changes in membership, riding bicycles, passion plays, the visit to the Methodist youth clubs service in London at the end of the war. Recalls joining the Upper Hutt Uniting Parish when it was being formed. Talks of joint denominational Easter and Christmas programmes, also a joint choir with St Hilda's Anglican Church, and her attitude to prayer. Mentions Baptists. Talks of various churches in the parish and pulling down St. Andrew's. Explains about food banks and the referral system for counselling, Celebrate Jesus 2000 and relates how local denominations work together for the Alpha programme. Explains her children's grounding in the church and her role as church camp leader. Relates the effect of her husband's early death from cancer, his burial on her birthday and the surprise party the following year. Explains the making of peace banners partly in memory of her husband, tying them to the American and Russian embassies during the Cold War and at an Upper Hutt mall.
