Description: The base map, from the New Zealand cadastral map Town Series, of Wellington city encompasses part of Island Bay Parade and Lyall Parade to Evans Bay to Kaiwharawhara to Wilton Road to Happy Valley Road. The City and County boundary is prominently marked, as is the Registration District boundary. Suburbs are named. Reclaimed land is shown. Wharves and waterfront buildings are named. The Wellington Harbour and Corporation Land Act 1880 is referred to. Annotations to this map are areas of Maori reserves, referred to in a key. The largest area is between Waripori Street, Rintoul Street, a reserve and Adelaide Road, Russell Terrace and Florence Street. Several small reserve areas are marked in Newtown and Berhampore. Description: Survey map of land for Parliamentary and general Government Buildings between Bowen, Hill and Molesworth streets and Lambton Quay. Closed streets are shown within section 1211, and adjacent to both sections 1210 and 1211, which include acreages and boundary measurements. A small area of Section 1211 is noted as 'vested in Wellington City Council as a pleasure ground'. New Zealand Gazetteer references are given for the land reserved for Parliamentary and Government purposes, also the closed streets and public roads, with references to Deeds indexes linked to H. M. the Queen. Public roads include references to Crown Grants and also the Reserves and Other Lands Disposal and Other Bodies Empowering Act 1910. Includes references to the Citizens War Memorial. Widths of some roads are noted. Sydney Street East, Aitken and Bunny streets and The Terrace are marked. Annotations show a few boundary measurements in meters. A few moments silence was observed by all those assembled for Mr Fred Goldfinch, an `old stalwart from Petone' whose funeral coinsided with farewell. Description: A combined interview with three former Government Printers, Mr A P Shearer, Mr E C Keating and Mr P D Hasselberg. They discuss their backgrounds; former employment prior to joining the Government Printing Office; salary; working conditions; Hansard proofs; accommodation; former colleagues; night staffing; monotype work; World War II; the impact of R E Owen, Government Printer from 1949 to 1968 and his predecessor, E V Paul; Industrial and union problems; computerization; decentralization to Masterton and they give extremely candid opinions on the ministers in charge of the Government Printing Office. Mr Hasselberg recalls the family's first radio in 1936 and some early programmes, `Dad and Dave' `Eberdy Zed (?)' and `Japanese Houseboy'.
