Description: The papers trace his career from being a student at University College of Otago, his Rhodes Scholarship at Oxford, his activities as an Olympic athlete, athletic administrator and manager of several New Zealand Olympic and Empire Games teams and his work on the International Olympic Committee, his service in World War II with the RAMC, and his work as a leading British medical practitioner and specialist who included among his patients the Royal Family. Papers relating to his work as a writer of medical and other papers, president of both the British Medical Association and the Royal College of Surgeons, and his involvement in a myriad of professional, sporting and other organisations are also included as well as an extensive collection of papers relating to his service as Governor General of New Zealand 1968-1972.
