Wellington drama group. In 1953 the New Zealand Players staged their first production, `The Young Elizabeth'. Players, as at 1954, included: Dennis Moore, Gay Dean, Charles Sinclair, Rilla Stephens, Roy Patrick, Raymond Boyce, Eleanor Elliot, Michael Cotterill, Susan Tunnington, Camille Rosenfeldt, Ruth Alley, Richard Campion, Germaine Du Relos, Willis Williams, Bernard Shine, John Hunter, Janice Harsant, Geoffrey Wren, John Gordon, Desmond Digby, Nicholas Garland. Description: Comprises literary drafts, correspondence, notes, newspaper cuttings and other papers relating to Edith Campion, and to her activities as a writer, actor and director of R Hannah Ltd, and to her domestic life. Includes many letters, scripts and film treatments from her daughters Jane and Anna Campion, who are both involved in the film industry. The papers reflect in detail the life and problems of a talented upper middle-class family in the dying years of the twentieth century. The New Zealand Players scrapbooks cover the years of the company's greatest activity (1952-1957) and provide insight into the development of drama in New Zealand.
