Mills, James (Sir), 1847-1936

Businessman, ship owner, politician. Shipowner and founder of Union Steam Ship Company. Born in Wellington, moved to Dunedin 1863, where he worked as storekeeper for Johnny Jones. Acquired first steam ship in 1875 and founded the Union Steam Ship Company. Retired to the United Kingdom in 1920. See DNZB (Vol 2, 1870-1900, p327-328)
