Brancepeth Station

Located in Wairarapa. Brancepeth (Boar's Path) was first settled by William Beetham in 1856. Brancepeth was the largest single Wairarapa property and was farmed in partnership by the Beetham and Williams families until 1905 when the station was divided between the two families (Historic Wairarapa homesteads; life and times, 1981)

Description: Comprises seven notebooks. One is undated and contains research notes about Canterbury and Wellington Province bridges, Glenmark Station, and Martha Mine. Two loose pages also have notes about bridges. The other notebooks are dated 1974-1978, 1976-1978, 1978-1983, 1979-1983, 1982, and 1984-1987. Most have lists of places visited and dates on their inside front covers. One notebook includes notes on sites in the United States of America and England. The notebook for 1979-1983 contains notes from "Directors' meetings" from 1979 and possibly was used later for recording site visits as all the vists are dated from 1981 onwards. Buildings include men's quarters, shearers' quarters, cookhouses, bakehouses, and cottages built for workers such as rabbitters, musterers, and boundary keepers. Many prints are labelled on the reverse; some are numbered; some have been marked up as if for publication. There are often several images of the same building from different perspectives. Arrangement: Prints were together with corresponding negatives in labelled glassine bags, arranged in largely alphabetical order by name of farm or station, in a small wooden drawer in a sequence labelled "Accommodation".
