Description: The first volume contains personal logs kept by Cameron while master of the `Hororata' on several convoys between England and Australia via Suez 1914-16, and of RMS `Remuera' running between England and New Zealand via Panama 1919. Also includes a London journal 17 June-30 September 1940 recording the bombing of Britain and Europe and living conditions during the London blitz. The second volume is a holiday diary describing travels between England and Scotland, 1929-1930. Source of title - Supplied Cameron was master of the `Hororata' and RMS `Remuera'. Description: Collection of photographs from an album compiled by Mrs R G Hosking. The photographs are mostly dated 1914-1918 and relate to World War One. Includes photographs taken in Egypt, England and New Zealand, depicting military personnel, naval ships, scenes at military camps, and the hospital at Brockenhurst, England. Includes portraits of Peter McIntyre Crawford, Douglas Vallance Hosking (husband of R G Hosking), Keith Melvyn Little, and other unidentified subjects. Features two photographs dated April 1924, one of Wellington taken from on board the HMS 'Hood', and another showing HMS 'Hood' on arrival at Wellington Harbour. Also includes images of naval ships NZHS 'Marama', HMAS 'Encounter', and HMNZT No. 8 'Star of India'. A fleet of ships is seen along the horizon of a postcard image captioned 'N.Z. First Contingent Sailing - Passing Island Bay' with the accompanying annotation 'This photo was taken at 4 a.m. as the ships carrying the Main Body were passing Island Bay, Wellington, on October 16, 1914'. Discusses his father, Monty (Montague), and his father's service in the Royal Navy during World War One as a gunner in the battles of Jutland and Heligoland. Recounts the story of his mother, Louisa Victoria de Carle, being on a world tour with her family, and jumping ship in Wellington to be with his father. Discusses his mother's family and their work. Explains that his brother Bill (William) suffered from polio at 18 months old. Describes housing and amenities in Milford, including public transport, and the swimming pool. Describes attending Takapuna Primary School, and discusses the headmaster and teachers. Discusses his love of long distance running. Discusses his studies and sports at Takapuna Grammar School, and his work after finishing school. Describes life in Milford and Takapuna during World War Two, and fears of Japanese invasion. Describes night exercises at Milford Beach, fears, and self-made fun during those times. Explains that American soldiers were everywhere, and that they were popular with the girls. Reflects on friendships between New Zealanders and American soldiers. Describes features of the Onewa Domain US camp, and mock exercises on the beach. Describes Milford Picturedrome and recounts stories of owner. Recounts stories of possums in the theatre, and that films broke down regularly. Description: Photograph album of Wellington and World War One scenes, 1900-1918. Photographer(s) unidentified. The portion of the album with captions is likely compiled by Mary Vida Pearce. Contains photograph of ponies and a garden at Lowry Bay as well as Wellington Harbour and wharf scenes, including a dredge. Shipboard scenes on the SS 'Athenic' show the bridge and deck with Miss Reece (photographed skipping), Mr Jones (First Officer), and Mr Morrow (Third Officer) identified. Album also includes photographs of street scenes and buildings in Vannes and Auray (France) and harbour and town scenes in Padstow (England). World War One photographs, which do not have captions, show military personnel [medics?] ouside a tent with the number "5" written on its side. Soldiers are also photographed in a trench with machine guns and rifles as well as resting in the shade. Also includes a photograph of a military convoy with horses and carts and a beach scene. Photographs of aerial and naval operations include aircraft crashed in the sea and a zepplin in flight. Description: Shows in diagrammatic form the "meeting of Grand Fleet and German High Seas Fleet at Rendezvous by order of Admiral Sir David Beatty. ... At 9.43 a.m. Grand Fleet manoeuvred into escorting position, turning 16 points outwards and increasing speed to 16 knots; course 270 [degrees] (true)" The British ships and their commanders are all named and shown in position, on either side of a line of named German ships shown in the centre led by Commodore Tagert, Rear Admiral von Reuter and Commodore Harder. The weather was misty, the sun dull, visibility 4,500 yards, wind 2-3 [knots] W.S.W; distance between escorting lines - 6 miles. The surrender took place in the Firth of Forth.
