Description: Three unidentified young women seated around a kava bowl in Samoa (kava preparation?). Photograph taken by Malcolm Ross probably in either 1899 or during the early stages of World War 1. Ross went to Samoa in 1899 and at the beginning of World War 1 (Information from the Dictionary of New Zealand Biography, 1993, Vol 2,page 400a). Description: Album of photographs taken by Thomas Andrew during a Pacific voyage on Henderson and Macfarlane schooner "Buster", leaving Auckland 19 September 1886, and calling at Niue, Manihiki, Suwarrow, Starbuck Island (where they rescued the crew of the Swedish barque Diana), Christmas Island, Swains Island (now part of American Samoa), Nauru, Tokelau, Gilbert, Ellice, Marshall and Caroline groups. They returned to Auckland in April 1887.
