Description: Shows a fashionably dressed woman and child in the right foreground beside a new car, with the new nurses' home, of Spanish Mission style, in the background. The original painting won the New Zealand Technical College art prize, where contestants were required to depict a modern building,modern car, and modern fashion. Description: Shows the hotel, damaged so that one can see into each room as in a doll's-house. The ground floor is of brick with rounded window arches. Each room is papered in a different pattern. At top centre is a panel of four scenes, including an angel blowing a trumpet over a burning city, a skeleton with a scythe holding a Reform banner beside the ranks of an army, and scenes of general confusion. Description: Mr W Malin, Athletic Park groundsman, with one of three buckets of roofing nails collected from the playing surface at Athletic Park, Wellington, photographed 19 April 1968 by an Evening Post staff photographer. Original newspaper caption states "....Mr Malin (a 1920-21 Wellington rugby representative), the park caretaker (Mr P A Hinds) and four other workers spent two days clearing the ground from the aftermath of last Wednesdays storm. Lead-capped nails were showered onto the ground after roofing iron on the main stand was lifted and hurled down by fierce wind....". (Evening Post, 19 April 1968). Description: Shows the old Napier Post Office on the corner of Shakespeare Road and Browning Street, burning. An elderly lady at the right is helped by two fireman. A man in white uniform stands at the centre. Two prisoners clear rubble at the left. Notes on verso indicate that the elderly woman had walked down the hill past the fire and was dazed and blistered. The prisoners who helped were later released for this work, except for one who escaped and was later recaptured and returned to prison.
