Labour activist. Born in Manchester; came to NZ in 1912. With the Social Democratic Party in 1914. Parliamentary candidate for the Labour Party, Gisborne seat, in the 1922 elections. President of NZLP 1922-1926. Member of the Legislative Council 1936-1950.
