Description: A form postcard sent to "Mr Haddon" of St Mary Street, Thorndon, commanding him to attend a drill of the Wellington City Rifles Volunteer Corps. The card is post-marked 29 October 1897 and signed by W G Duthie, the Captain Commanding. The research papers, taken from 'Papers Past', establish that the drill was held on 1 November 1897, the thirtieth anniversary of the Corps (Evening Post, 1 November 1897, page 6). Title supplied by Library George Haddon was a boot maker, specialising as a clicker, and living at 8 St Mary Street in 1897. Quantity: 1 folder(s) 1 card, 5 research papers. Physical Description: Printed card with manuscript annotations, together with typescript letter and print-outs from 'Papers Past'. Provenance: Found by Neil Harrap while renovating a house at 8 or 10 St Mary Street, Thorndon and who passed it to Brett McKay of the Thorndon Society. Mr McKay investigated the card's background and donated it, together with the results of his research, to the Alexander Turnbull Library
