- Description
Album of photographs of a trip to the West Coast Region of New Zealand in 1913, taken by unidentified photographer (possibly Daisy Hitchcock). Captions inscribed on the photographs and sometimes on the album page. Images show landscapes, and women and men travelling by horse and carriage from Christchurch to Greymouth and around the West Coast and Southland Regions. Identified locations are Otira Gorge, Bealey River, Bligh Sound, Bowen Falls, George Sound, Hokitika Gorge, "McDonalds Inlet", Lake Kaniere and Hans Island, a suspension bridge over the Waiho River, Hokitika Gorge, Dorothy Creek, and Dorothy Falls. One image shows a child in a clearing in the bush near a punga house, he is identified as three year old "Jim". Inscription on the back of the back cover reads "d. Hitchcock May 1st 1913".
