Description

Scenes at the Avondale Racecourse at the New Zealand Polynesian Festival, in February 1981. All images are close-up views of men, women and children in the grandstand watching events. They include head and shoulder views (in frames 8 to 12) of a man and woman prepared for a performance wearing traditional costumes. He wears a painted moko (symbolising the traditional tattoo) and is wearing a long pendant (possibly pounamu (greenstone)), and the woman is wearing a woven tipare (headband), and woven pari (bodice), (frames 8 to 12) Unless otherwise stated, all persons are unidentified. Photographs taken by Ans Westra.
