New Zealand Polynesian Festival, 6-8 February 1981

Scenes at the Avondale Racecourse at the New Zealand Polynesian Festival, in February 1981. Many images taken outside a large building attached to a racecourse with frames 1 to 5 showing men and women emerging from a doorway labelled "Cafeteria". A man wearing a broad straw hat with a feather in the band, and a large greenstone hei tiki (neck ornament) with people in the grandstand in the background (frame 6); a woman wearing a korowai (cloak), a bone hei tiki and feathered ear-rings, with a racecourse visible in the background (frames 7 to 10); another woman is also wearing cloak and feathered ear-rings (frames 10 & 11); and a large crowd on seats in the grandstand with a camera on tripod in the centre of the image and a policeman looking up at the crowd, and, in the foreground, a woman sitting on a rug beside a camera, some books and a record player[?] (frame 12).
