New Zealand Polynesian Festival, 6-8 February 1981

Scenes at the Avondale Racecourse at the New Zealand Polynesian Festival, in February 1981. Images taken at a large building attached to the racecourse. In frames 1 and 11, young women are seen with signs advertising hangi tickets ($3.00), and in frame one two men are on a bench seat nearby under a sign reading "To dress room 3 & 4". This has been placed over a sign which is partially visible reading "Totalisator & cafeteria. Top floor, Ladies & escorts bar; Ladies powder room; and Totalisator". Three small boys are sitting on the grass having a picnic (frame 3); four young men are sitting at a long table outside with large packets of white sandwich bread beside them (frame 4); two of the young men are at the table waiting for food, one holding a steel knife sharpener and the other holding a large carving knife and a fork (frames 5 to 10); and several young men are seen walking across a lawn at the back of the grandstand (frame 12).
