Description: Programme printed at the Wai[kato ...] lists stalls, competitions, entertainment programme, minstrel entertainment and "Living Pictures" (probably tableaux performed by locals), followed by a dance at 10.30 pm. Stalls included fancy goods, children's toys, fruit, refreshments, lollies, tobacco & flowers, fortune teller's tent, shooting gallery, art gallery, Aunt Sally and skittles. Competitions included Ladies' cross-cut sawing, Ladies' nail-driving, range finding, Ladies' sawing, Gentlemen's hat-trimming, weight guessing, candle-burning, peas in bottle, guessing weight of cake, Name of bride (doll). Entertainment programme included pianoforte music, orchestral music, musical dumb bells drill, musical club drill, songs, and a humorous recitation. Minstrel entertainment included comic songs, "coon" songs, sentimental songs, Mr W Tait as "Signor Mazzoni", and "The Great Negro Fishing Haka" performed by the troupe. Quantity: 1 b&w art print(s). Description: Flier advertising a fair which was to feature: tennis competitions, Old Aunt Sally, cocoanut shies, shooting gallery and other sports. Refreshments, affternoon tea, fruit salad, ice icream, summer drinks, lolly stall, etc. Fancy and plain work stalls, and a "first-class band" to render musical items. Admission 6d; children 3d. Rubber stamp at top right from All Saints Church Room, Kilbirnie. Dated 1903-1928 when Deslandes & Lewis were operating as printers. Perpetual calendar suggests: 1903, 1914, 1920, 1925. 1920 is the date of some other material received in the same donation. Quantity: 1 b&w art print(s). Description: Programme booklet for the fair which featured a baby show, dancing competitions, a floor show with Island dancing and hula, and the "Unity Centre" Orchestra. The booklet also featured advertisements for the Radio Centre, the Unity Centre, a price list from the Co-Op Shop, Modern Books (the Co-Op Book Shop), Tip-Top icecream, the Night Bird cafe, the People's Voice, and a Victory Carnival at Newtown Park, 22 December 1944 to 6 January 1945. The back cover advertises the Victory Patriotic Art Union, and the front cover shows an illustration by Judy Evans, of a Joker holding balloons and meeting Father Christmas. Description: Programme booklet showing the Missions to Seamen Church & Institue Building on the front cover, and views of the interior of the building inside. The institute provided warmth and hospitality, entertainment and games. The programme lists the names of the stalls at which objects can be bought, together with the names of the women running each stall: "Mars", "Southern Cross", "Saturn" (dolls for sale), "Juno", (confectionery), "Orion" (cashier), "Jupiter" (household goods from New Zealand and overseas), "Uranus" (home mending, patching, darning services offered), "Mercury" (various goods), "Sirius" (various goods), "The Comet" (mechanical game dispensing gifts), "Venus" (flowers and country produce). There were also evening entertainments including physicl fitness displays under Mr Dovey, the Wesleyan Orchestra, Mr C D Macintosh's Famous Instrumental Concert Party, a musical trio, and films "The midnight scare" and "The fight for the Pole".
