Oral history project by interviewer Jennifer Styles recorded to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the Historical Branch, Department of Internal Affairs. The four interviews cover the experiences of those who worked in the very early days of the Historical Branch. The interviewees are Robert (Bob) Burnett, Janet Paul, Frances Porter and Nancy Taylor.
Topics discussed include publications such as the 1940 centennial surveys, 'Meet New Zealand' and the first historical atlas, as well as people such as Joe Heenan, John Beaglehole, John Pascoe, and Guy Scholefield.
