- Description
Ode written in varied metre, as a dedication to 50 years of the reign of Queen Victoria. The first letter of each line is coloured red or blue, and decorated with gold ink, as are several of the illustrations' borders. Some of the painted illustrations have a New Zealand theme, showing Maori, landscapes or coastal scenes, while others have a more classical appearance
Donor has suggested that the dedication to Dr Tripe was as a thank you to him for bringing Pownall through a health crisis (both men were living in Wanganui at the time). Pownall died two years later
