Description

Contains postcards with short messages written home by Cade during his service in World War I. Cards are addressed to his young son, Tom "Tiger", (1912-1933) and his wife, Ada (1885-1978), in Wanganui [Whanganui]. His correspondence includes descriptions of his health, places he has visited, information about the postcard he is sending, and places he has stayed (including people he was billeted with). Images on cards include church buildings, gardens, hotels, towns, a Red Cross hospital, rivers, bridges, a boat accident, symbolic military composite images (mainly young children dressed in military costume), and an illustrated series called 'Me and the Mule'. Cards are from France (Boulogne-Sur-Mer, Paris, Lobbes, Verviers, Rouen, Hazebrouck, and Le Treport), Germany (Leichlingen), and Great Britain (Glasgow, York, London, Wiltshire, and Oxford). Printed descriptions on cards in French, German, and English. Some cards are coloured, three of the cards are blank, and one is undated.
