Photographs taken mainly in New Zealand between 1959 and 2013 by Ans Westra, including many images of Māori.
Subjects covered in more detail include: the 1961 Annual Coronation hui at Turangawaewae Marae; the Ngaruawahia Maori Festival of the Arts at Ngaruawahia in 1963; the Ngati Poneke Young Maori Club, Wellington; the official opening of the 28th Maori Battalion National War Memorial Community Centre in Palmerston North in 1964; the Ratana Church; the Ringatu Church; Waiwhetu Marae in Lower Hutt.
Arrangement: Original negatives comprise three main series: those with the reference number prefix AWM (Ans Westra Māori), those with the reference number prefix AW (Ans Westra) for general images, and those with the reference number prefix AWC (Ans Westra colour), for colour images. Colour images have been named by location of photographs.

The negative series with prefix AW has varying levels of description.
Digitisation details - Original negatives were digitised by Suite Tirohanga. Some of the digitised files contain metadata added by the imaging technican during processing. This metadata identifies locations and events, and is based on: proof sheet notes recorded by Ans Westra (up to circa 1972); information from Yvonne Westra (for images dated 1984-1985 onwards); and on Suite Gallery's set of keywords used to retrieve digitised image files.

Description: Exhibition print created by Suite Tirohanga Ltd, photograph taken by Ans Westra at the annual coronation hui, Turangawaewae Marae Ngaruawahia in 1963. Print shows scenes of people attending the annual coronation celebrations and include kuia (two named as Mary Kite and Mihi Moore) providing entertainment between proceedings by performing on the veranda of a meeting house.
