Folder comprises four Certificates of Registration for re-entering resident 'alien' immigrants into New Zealand. These certificates were issued under the Chinese Immigrants Act 1881, Immigration Restriction Act 1899 and Immigration Restriction Amendment Act 1908. All four certificates are accompanied by photographs of the applicants and include details of their physical description. Three of the certificates still have their wax seals. Two of the certificates dated 1909 and 1910 also include fingerprints for proof of identity. Three of the certificates are for Chinese male immigrants; Ah Hoo, Wong Chow (wears plait) and Pin Wah, who all who left the Port of Lyttelton in 1901 and 1909. The fourth certificate is for a Syrian woman Lily Khowi and her three children, who also departed from Lyttelton in 1910.
