Shows President Obama at his desk in the Oval office. He asks three generals how the war is going. Context: President Obama has made radical changes in his thinking about the Afghan War since he first became president and ordered a 'surge' of 30,000 troops. Discussion about withdrawal has been undertaken without the generals. Obama announced at a meeting with NATO nations in Chicago in late May that all combat operations led by American forces will cease in summer 2013, when the United States and other NATO forces move to a support role whether the Afghan military can secure the country or not. Obama was shocked by what the wars cost would be if the generals counterinsurgency plan were left on autopilot $1 trillion over 10 years. (NY Times May 19 2012)
