Description

Shows buildings surrounded by a stockade and a bridge over a creek with two further houses nearby.

The artist arrived in Wellington in 1849. Horokiri Valley was fortified for a relatively brief period, from 1843 until the early 1850s.

The location of the scene depicted is the military housing inside old Pahautanui Pa site after 1846. St. Albans Church was later built on the site.
